While designing a custom last Fall, working with a patchwork theme and lots of small piecesof fabric, we used some of the leftover pieces to create appliqued flowers on each strap end. This began the first idea for a Mei Tai with many "extras."</p><p align="center"><br />The Parapluie is styled after the traditional Mei Tai carrier used in Asia for thousands of years. This hooded Mei Tai can be used for front, back or side carrying with a one-size-fits-all design and 80" strap length, accommodating both Mom and Dad. </p><p align="center"><br />There are 2 pockets. The first is the signature With Child hidden pocket, sewn into the side seam of the carrier's body, perfect for securely stashing cash, credit cards, a pacifier, a cell phone or a snack bar. Our house is nestled between two small slopes that protected it from wind damage (so no broken windows or downed trees). From our front window I watched the river crash against the shore with waves that looked like the ocean's. The old cannery's metal roof peeled away, blowing off like sheets of paper. But we stayed safe and warm, bundled in sweaters, cooking over the fire. I'm not sure what type of yarn it is (it was a gift from a very dear and inspiring friend), but I did a basic knit stitch with #9 bamboo needles. It only took a few hours, once my fingers found the knitting rhythm again (the last time I knit anything I was 14 or 15 years old). I'm in trouble now, though...it was so relaxing and easy, I think I'm hooked! And that means buying yarn. Lots and lots of yarn. I have my eye on some gorgeous organic Irish Aran yarn I found online at The Irish Ewe in Maine. I love to do handmade Christmas gifts, but baby slings don't seem to be on everyone's wishlist. How could I resist the light blue and orange stripes? And they'll be perfect for potty training since they stay on even when he's not wearing a diaper.
